Woman Appears in Court After Being Accused of Raping a Man Twice

A British woman has been accused of raping a man twice and will stand trial.

Katie Brannen (pictured) was summoned to Newcastle Crown Court after being accused of two rape offences. It has been alleged that she attacked the man, who has not been identified, in January. Miss Brannen, 26, spoke only to confirm her name during the hearing this week.

Her barrister, Gavin Doig, indicated a not guilty plea and said his client would be looking for a trial date. A four-day trial is currently scheduled for December 4. A review hearing, which she must attend, is planned for September 25.

Judge Robert Spragg told the woman: “If you do not come to your trial on December 4 it could go ahead in your absence. On those terms you are free to go and we will see you back here on September 25.”

The accused woman was granted bail, but is prohibited from contacting the alleged male victim and cannot change the address where she lives. She was also given an electronic curfew and cannot enter premises that serve alcohol.

Details of the alleged attack were not discussed in court.
