Fears of a terror attack are running high in the German city of Cologne after an early-morning attack.
One man was taken to hospital with stab wounds early Monday morning after a scuffle near the centre of the city.
Police are pursuing at least two attackers, according to a report by MailOnline.
Officials have reportedly said it is too early to say whether terrorism was a factor.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire around 4am in Flandrischenstrasse, an area of the city not far from the scene of mass sex attacks by migrant men on New Year’s Eve.
As well as the seriously hurt stab victim, two men are also said to be lightly injured.

Though bullet casings were found at the scene, nobody appears to have been shot.
Several people have reportedly been detained for questioning, while officers are still looking for two suspects.
Germany has been the scene of several high-profile attacks in recent weeks.
They include a mass shooting at a mall in Munich, a stabbing, a suicide bombing.
The latter crime was explicitly linked to Islamic terror after a video emerged of the suspect pledging allegiance to ISIS.
