An Olympic javelin thrower came pretty close to hitting an unsuspecting camera cry when one of his throws went awry.

Cedric Dubler, an Australian competing in the decathlon, launched his projectile wide of the mark on Thursday:

The javelin struck outside the official landing zone, coming close to staff who got a little more Olympic drama than they bargained for.

Shortly after Dubler, 21, joked that he “almost killed a cameraman” with the rogue shot.

After the mishap he ran out to apologise to the team on the field.

He later managed an on-target shot and recorded a distance of 51.82m, and finished 14th overall in the event.
