A Europhile minister today figured out how to do away with this vexatious EU Referendum business – just tell the voters to can it and obey their MPs.
Ros Altmann, who oversees pensions, wagged her finger at voters considering defying their Member of Parliament to back Brexit:

Her warning against “overruling” MPs, triggering a firestorm of outrage from across the political spectrum:
@rosaltmann MPs are the servants of the people, not their masters.

@rosaltmann Umm…yes it does. That's kind of the point. It's called a "referendum".

@rosaltmann Haha what? Have you been drinking? This is a democracy. We get to overrule our MPs. THEY work for US. #Brexit

Baroness Altmann – who as a member of the Hous eof Lords was never “democratically elected” – later U-turned:
Just want to apologise if my tweet on MPs came over badly. Of course MPs there to serve the people. That's what democracy all about

But the damage has been done.
The Remain campaign – and the EU they seek to defend – are guilty of time and again treating the electorate as an inconvenience to worked around rather than people to work for.
This will only deepen that impression.
