Kensington Palace, the official London office of Prince Harry, has issued a formal statement this morning confirming that American actress Meghan Markle is his girlfriend.
In a strongly worded letter, the palace has also stated that Harry is “worried” about her safety and lambasted the media for intruding into her life and the lives of her friends and family.
In a tweet, the palace said this was “harrassment”.

The letter said a line has been crossed and Miss Markle, 35, had recently been subject to a “wave of abuse and harrassment”.
It said Harry is “worried about Ms Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her”.
The statement said: “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms Markle should be subjected to such a storm.”
As well as taking aim at traditional media, it blamed the “outright sexism and racism of social media trolls” for causing this distress.
