Prince Charles attended the funeral of Shimon Peres in Israel wearing what some commentators called a “beautiful” yarmulke.
Beautiful it may have been, but it was all “Me, me me” – American royal-watchers may not know that the white feathers are the heraldic royal crest of the coat of arms of the Prince of Wales.
The white feathers were sewn into a gold coronet, in case anybody missed the message that Charles was the Prince of Wales.
Did I mention he is a Royal Prince?
As in, “Your Royal Highness”.
The yarmulke is a traditional Jewish headcovering worn by men to show respect for God, because God is everywhere. Non-Jewish men are often asked to wear it at state or other religious occasions, like a funeral.
‘Respect for God’ does not normally involve drawing attention to oneself or one’s Royal Status.
