It wouldn’t be 2016 if the news that iconic singer Bob Dylan has been awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature didn’t trigger social justice warriors on social media.
The 75-year-old rock legend, the first songwriter to get a Nobel, won the award “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”
But not everyone is happy with it. After all, Dylan is just another white man to win the award and erase the contributions made by other groups. A New York Times bestselling author, Suki Kim, slammed the decision, claiming it’s “unbelievable” to give the award to Dylan. She went on a Twitter tirade implying the Nobel Prize committee favors westerners and white men and would never give an award to Michael Jackson because “he’s not white.”

Others are also unleashing their frustration with the decision, with some saying it’s “another setback for non-white & female writers” and “like Christmas in October for a ton of straight white cis gender dudes.”
