Former Baywatch star and model Pamela Anderson has said she plans to campaign on behalf of men falsely accused of committing rape.

Anderson, who has become a vocal critic of Internet pornography, supporter of women’s rights and campaigner against domestic abuse, gave an interview to Russia Today’s Going Underground show, in which she criticized Sweden for its laws surrounding rape.

“I’m going to start campaigning for men who have been victims of being accused of rape when they haven’t actually done anything,” she claimed. “Sweden has these very progressive laws against sexual crimes, whatever you want to call it. It’s almost too progressive, it’s almost paralysing.”

The star is a close friend of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who is currently living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to prevent his extradition to Sweden, where he faces accusations of rape. When asked about Assange, Anderson claimed: “When you read the actual case, and read everything about it, there’s no crime that’s been committed.”

She added that, in her opinion, the Swedish authorities had got themselves into a difficult situation, and don’t “really know what to do”.

“We all of course gravitate towards vulnerable people and we consider that to be women and children first and foremost which is important but there’s also a lot of men who are in a vulnerable situation.”

Anderson caused a stir last year when claiming men should stop watching pornography, describing it as a “public hazard” which was affecting men’s ability to function “as husband, and by extension, as father”.
