The National Union of Students’ LGBT+ officer defended the Taliban and described US soldiers as “disgusting”, Heat Street can reveal.
Noorulann Shahid, who identifies as “Muslim, Feminist, Desi, Queer, Disabled, Trans” according to her Twitter, represents thousands of gay students across Britain and is a close ally of NUS president Malia Bouattia.

In 2012 Shahid, who asks to be referred to as “they”, wrote a blog post titled “The desecration of the Quran – intentions matter”.
They have since deleted the post, but screen copies can be seen here: picture 1, picture 2, picture 3.
In the post they defended the Taliban insurgents and criticised the desecration of Prophet Mohammed and the Quran.
They said Muslims would “rightly” be angered by the actions – which have a history of resulting in violent reprisals.
In the article, they wrote: “Personally, I find the desecration of Islamic holy text or the mistreatment of Taliban insurgents by the US frankly insulting and disgusting.”
They added that the reason isn’t “because I sympathise with the Taliban, but because they are Muslims.”
This raises questions whether they’d apply the same principle in regards to today’s Islamist groups pillaging the region.
Shadid also warned that “Muslims will get angry, and rightly so” if anyone dares to desecrate the Quran – referring to the situation in 2012 when American troops accidentally burned copies of the Quran due to “lack of religious awareness”.
They points to the cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed published by a Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which sparked violent protests and death threats towards the journalists, and said that “it’s inevitable” that such negative depiction “will provoke discontentment.”
Heat Street approached Noorulann Shahid asking for a comment on Friday, yet no response has been received.
Instead the NUS LGBT+ officer hidden all traces of evidence by making their blog, and thus the post, inaccessible to others and setting their Twitter account to private-mode.
Is Noorulann Shahid admitting their guilt?
