MPs Blow Hundreds Of Pounds Praising Tennis Player Andy Murray

Last month Heat Street noted that Scottish National Party MPs had between them racked up a £230,000 bill tabling Early Day Motions (EDM) in the House of Commons.

The EDM is a way for an MP to make their opinion known on any given topic.

Each EDM costs taxpayers an average of £271 to produce.

And in reality, each EDM is an utterly pointless vanity project, as so many of the SNP’s efforts have confirmed. (For instance, was it really necessary for them to table one marking the 50th anniversary of the first TV episode of Star Trek?)

This week the UKIP donor Aaron Banks floated the idea of organising a movement of people who would stand against the 200 “worst” MPs in the House of Commons at the next general election.

Banks might want to begin by looking at the contribution to public life made by this Magnificent Seven:

There are currently two EDMs praising tennis player Andy Murray for reaching the status of number 1 tennis player in the world.

The seven MPs pictured above have signed both EDMs. Four represent the SNP; two represent the DUP; and one is a Labour MP.

Wouldn’t one EDM have been sufficient if they really felt the need spend public cash in this way?

It is almost as though they have nothing better to do with their time…
