A crocodile feasted on a man who was attempting to cross a notorious flooded river in Australia’s forbidding Northern Territory.
The 47-year-old was wading through crocodile-infested waters at Cahills Crossing near Kakadu National Park at 4pm on Thursday when he was dragged under the surface by the beast.
Two women who were with the ‘local’ man watched in horror as he disappeared from view.
Police later shot the ‘very protective’ crocodile after they found it with the body.

They described the man’s injuries as ‘consistent with being taken by a crocodile’ before taking the body to Darwin.
The crossing passes over the East Alligator River, which is infested with at least 120 saltwater crocodiles.
Signs warn people not to wade through it on foot.
NT Police Duty Superintendent Bob Harrison said: “Cahill’s Crossing is notorious for crocodiles and to walk across it to me is just foolishness”.
He told Sky News: “The area’s noted for crocodiles on the causeway and there are signs there saying don’t go in the water.
“Unfortunately they did and that was the result.”
An ABC report suggested the man to be from the nearby indigenous Gunbalanya community.
Despite warning signs against crossing the water on foot the man waded into the water but was dragged under by a crocodile.
