Actress Helen Mirren is not having a good week.
Her new film, Collateral Beauty, has been trashed by critics and currently has a rating of just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Critics’ Consenus is that the film, also starring Will Smith, is “well-meaning but fundamentally flawed…[it] aims for uplift but collapses in unintentional hilarity.”
UK site The Independent is typical of the reviews it got, awarding it one star and declaring: “Collateral Beauty is one of the last films to be released this year and also one of the very worst. This is a horribly stodgy and misconceived attempt to make a modern-day New York-set equivalent to It’s A Wonderful Life.”
Then Mirren said it would be “wonderful if women weren’t expected to wear make-up”.
However, Mirren is an ‘ambassador’ for the cosmetics firm L’Oreal.
For this role, she is paid a fortune.
Aged 71, can Mirren expect to enjoy L’Oreal’s money for much longer?
