France might have become the latest country to outlaw smacking earlier this month, but one school teacher has found a new way to instill discipline in naughty children….taping them to their chairs.

A school teacher in southeastern France has been suspended and replaced after being accused of tying unruly children—aged three to seven—to their seats with scotch tape, France Bleu reported.

Some parents told the local academic inspection unit that the teacher, who was in her first year of teaching, even placed tape over the kids’ mouths to keep them quiet during class.

The inspection team has condemned the teacher’s actions as “unacceptable” but refused to release further details about the incidents, which allegedly took place  on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th of January.

A psychologist has been made available for parents and children. At the time of writing, no official complaint has been filed but an investigation has been opened, which could culminate in sanctions.

This is not the first time that a teacher was caught binding unruly school children as a form of punishment.

In January 2013, another teacher in the southern French town of Narbonne tied a 3-year old to a chair using rope.

Police launched an inquiry into that incident, and dismissed the charges of physical violence against the child. The matter was not taken to court.
