The creator of Fight Club has claimed credit for popularising “snowflake” as a way to insult the hypersensitive – and said that the political left is now crammed with people who fit the bill.

Chuck Palahniuk, who wrote the original novel, said he believes the term evolved from a snide line used in his 1996 book and later the subsequent hit movie.

Although his epithet, issued by Brad Pitt’s character Tyler Durden in the film (pictured above), can apply to any easily-wounded egos, Palahniuk said that Leftists fulfill this best today.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, he said: “It [The insult ‘snowflake’] does come from Fight Club.

“There is a line, ‘You are not special. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake.’”

He continued: “Every generation gets offended by different things but my friends who teach in high school tell me that their students are very easily offended.”

“The modern Left is always reacting to things,. Once they get their show on the road culturally they will stop being so offended.”

Palahniuk was also asked whether he thought people were too outraged by President Trump – but declined to answer.
