Oh dear.

It sounds like Education Secretary Nicky Morgan’s latest attempt to generate support for the EU ‘In’ Campaign in her Loughborough constituency did not go according to plan.

On Saturday morning, Morgan held a pro-EU event at Loughborough University.

According to bystanders it was a thinly attended affair.

At one stage, three young children had to make up the numbers, as this photo shows.

Worse still, sources in Loughborough have told Heat Street that David Cameron was originally pencilled in to join Morgan as a star guest.

Yet for reasons which are not clear, the prime minister was not there.

A Downing Street spokesman refused to comment on the claim.

At the same time, the Vote Leave camp held their own event to generate support for Brexit.

It seemed to attract marginally more support – but no children were required to bulk up the numbers, as this photo shows.

Adam Stares, a Maths student at Loughborough University and local campaign organiser for Vote Leave, said: “The Remain campaign had planned a launch event in Loughborough and we had heard that the Prime Minister may be attending.

“Vote Leave has been campaigning hard in the Loughborough area. Our team is cross-party and includes lots of students. I have found that as the referendum draws near more people are approaching us, thanking us for our work and saying that they will defiantly vote to leave.”

This is a lot more than Ms Morgan had to say after her campaigning efforts.
