Jared Kushner is proving himself to be a transition team executive with great judgement.
In Oxford yesterday, Corey Lewandowski talked to students and crumbled in the face of strong questions. Lewandowski was baited into eye-popping anti-Mexican comments. Buzzfeed News reports that Lewandowski said that Trump would force Mexico to pay for a wall – something the President-Elect backed off of, immediately after his election. Worse, Lewandowski then added that when all the criminals went back to Mexico (his characterisation) it would bankrupt that nation, forcing them to do whatever President Trump wanted them to do.
This might be good for Twitter trolling, but it is a far cry from the kind, gentle Trump we have seen in the transition, who is reaching out to his political enemies and including them in his meeting schedule and as possible Cabinet members.
Mexico’s going to pay for the wall, and it’s very simple. The wall that Mexico has on its southern border which keeps people out from coming into their country, is now going to be to placed on its northern border. And when that happens, the criminal aliens that are in this country will be deported back to the countries they’re from. When that happens, they’re going to be in big trouble, their economy’s going to collapse. We’ll say, ‘What are you going to do?’, and they’ll say, ‘What do you want us to do?’
No wonder Mr. Kushner reportedly wanted Mr. Lewandowski out of the campaign – President-Elect Trump has got better things to do than to troll Mexico, a US ally he will want to befriend.
