You know what sounds like a barrel of laughs? Politically correct jokes and diversity quotas, of course!
Seattle’s own Comedy Nest, formerly called the Comedy Womb, has figured out the secret to a great night of comedy: a stringent set of rules curbing gender bias and banning anything that could be construed as misogyny, racism, homophobia or transphobia. And at least half of the comics at the weekly safe space event must be female-identifying.
“In general, the rules make the comedy better,”says Natalie Holt, a co-owner of the safe space. “They make it so people are in a more comfortable place to laugh because they know they’re not going to be the subject of a joke.”
Right, because we all know that ridiculously strict rules about what you can and cannot laugh about makes for the best comedy.
George Carlin is surely rolling in his grave.
