Since all the world’s problems are now solved,, young, politically minded celebrities have taken to campaigning for “free nipples:” They’re asking social media networks to lift their “sexist” ban on nips in photographs, which most platforms consider “obscene content” unless the photo is of a breastfeeding mother.
Free the Nipple proponents include Rihanna, Vanessa Hudgens and most, if not all, of the Kardashian clan, intentionally or unintentionally. Now, even Kendall Jenner has joined the boob-centric equality crusade, and she’s using her newfound nipple fame to raise awareness of mental illness.
Kendall is “adopting a braless aesthetic,” according to Teen Vogue by wearing a shirt with two breasts crudely drawn on the front, as seen on her Instagram. The “Never Fully Dressed Original Boob T” retails for $35 and supports the “Mind Charity” that works to “change attitudes toward mental health” in the UK.
The connection between boobs and mental health isn’t readily apparent. It just sort of seems like Kendall wanted another excuse to draw attention to her breasts, and instead of a banal Instagram photo of a nipple under a mesh shirt, she went with drawn-on ones.
But the sentiment is nice, I guess. And Kendall says she sometimes has panic attacks, so there’s that.
Teen Vogue, known, of course, for its editorial commitment to hard-hitting journalism, noted the gesture was “brave.” It did not elaborate on how wearing a shirt with boobs on it might be considered oddly courageous. But now all those tourists in Key West also have a convenient humanitarian excuse for their trashy souvenirs.
For her part, Kendall also released a Free the Nipple manifesto. “I’m all about freeing the nipple…I just think it’s cool to show off what’s under your shirt—whether that’s a cute bralette or just skin,” she said.
Nobel Prize forthcoming.
