Yahoo Inc. this week is expected to confirm a data breach that exposed several hundred million user accounts, according to a Recode report citing unnamed sources.
The confirmation would come after a hacker known as “Peace” claimed last month to have details for about 200 million Yahoo accounts.
Such an announcement would have implications for the planned $4.8 billion sale of Yahoo’s core business to Verizon Communications Inc. noted the report by Recode’s Kara Swisher, who is known for her Yahoo scoops.
It also would be another stain on the record of Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, the report added.
There has been a steady stream of hacking attacks in recent years, affecting Dropbox Inc., the Democratic National Committee, Target Corp. and many other enterprises.
