Here at Heat Street we love to take pot shots at the left for hating on video games. From moral panics about guns to moral panics about bouncy boobs, progressives love to harp on the stuff that makes games fun.
But conservatives, too, have been traditional enemies of gaming. Let’s not forget the moral panic surrounding Dungeons and Dragons spearheaded by the religious right.
But nowhere is this game hating more prevalent than in The Rebel Media. Vice co-founder Gavin McInnes’ right-wing site occasionally gives lips service to GamerGate, but mainly just promotes his own moral panics surrounding games.
In the video below The Rebel’s Faith Goldy warns us of the dangers of Pokemon GO: adults turning into children, losing interest in the world around them then submitting to the will of the liberal elite. Pokemon GO must be stopped!
Goldy even compares Pokemon GO players to a man who left his wife and seven kids to live as a six-year-old girl. If any one at Rebel Media actually played Pokemon GO, they’d realize you can actually have fleeting fun with the game without an irresistible desire to re-enter the womb.
Then you’ve got head honcho McInnes, who frequently says adults shouldn’t be playing video games. His latest moral panic surrounds the news that millennials aren’t having as much sex as they should be. McInnes, of course, blames video games.
And his solution? Stop masturbating and join his creepy #NoWanks movement. Mix that in with his own brand of “pick-up artist” ideology, Proud Boys, and you may be able to turn your life around.
No thanks, Gavin. I’ll continue to play my games, and let you and your No Wankers have fun, uh, not masturbating.
