Twitter is in turmoil. As it stock price perpetually plummets, its user base has shrunk down to mainly journalists and shameless self promoters. The company no longer can be considered a social media platform for the common folk who just want to have a laugh or learn something interesting. So what does Twitter do? Put out an app exclusively geared toward the delicate sensibilities of celebrities, of course.
Twitter Engage allows one to use Twitter without engaging (ironically) with the larger cesspool the site has become. It helps filter out the normies and randos from your mentions, leaving mainly verified accounts or people with similar follower bases. And, most importantly, it lacks a timeline, keeping the user safe from the jealous ravings of the plebs. It also adds some helpful ego-stroking analytic tools.
This addition is just another example of Twitter catering to its preferred class of users. Despite many being the victim of harassment on the platform, only verified users get a quality filter. And usually only verified or highly followed users get a response from Twitter if, let’s say, a bunch of Trump supporters are Tweeting pictures of you in concentration camp gas chambers.
So thanks, Twitter, on behalf of the upper echelon. May they use your platform unmolested. As for the rest of us, the normal people who are hemorrhaging from your user base, I guess we’ll have to just develop a thicker skin.
