Raden, a newly launched smart luggage doesn’t only make your traveling experience more convenient, it also makes for an excellent travel buddy.

CEO and founder of Raden, Josh Udashkin knew he wanted a change in how the traditional travel luggage is designed. The term ‘raden’ means highly-designed lacquered object in Japanese. He told Quartz:

“I couldn’t figure out why every piece of luggage was awful—clam shell, cyborg, robot, Terminator-shaped—the colors were hideous, the details were terrible. It looked like parts from the luggage catalogue shoved together.”

Udashkin, the former director of Aldo’s international development made this observation while he was traveling to different countries. To bring his idea to life, Udashkin contacted Kenny Sweet, the same product designed for Dr. Dre’s Beats.

Udashkin and Sweet worked together for two years until they finally came up with the smart luggage Raden. The hard work certainly paid off because the luggage design offers something unique and intelligent.

For one, the Raden is designed to have weight sensors, which means that you’ll know if you have an overweight baggage the moment you start packing. Next, you’ll never travel with an empty phone battery again because Raden has a charging port that can juice up your phone’s battery up to four complete cycles.

What makes Raden user-friendly is its custom app that allows users to know the fastest route to the airport, security line wait times and baggage alerts that tells if the baggage has been loaded into the carousel and where the current location of the baggage is.

Aside from the tech features, Raden’s workmanship is noteworthy as well. It is made of high-gloss exterior shells that are described to be ‘virtually indestructible.’ The shells are flexible and light, accompanied by waterproof sealing and reversed zipper lining. The tires are made of polyurethane allowing for a 360-degree ride.

Raden will definitely be a game-changer in the luggage market. And if the tech features and sturdy built aren’t enough, do know that the Raden app can also print out travel stickers, similar to what vintage suitcases look like if that’s what you fancy.
