Google’s director of engineering, Ray Kurzweil, has claimed humans will be able to live forever with the aid of technological advances available from the year 2045.

Kurzweil, 68, is a big believer in The Singularity, the moment when science will transcend nature and, he thinks, allow humans to stay alive eternally.

He said he’s chosen the year 2045 because, according to his calculations, “nonbiological intelligence created in that year will reach a level that’s a billion times more powerful than all human intelligence today.”

But even before 2045, when he’ll be 97, Kurzweil believes the human race could begin a “deathless” process.

In an interview with Playboy magazine Kurzweil said: “I believe we will reach a point around 2029 when medical technologies will add one additional year every year to your life expectancy. By that I don’t mean life expectancy based on your birthdate, but rather your remaining life expectancy.”

Kurzweil predicts that microscopic machines capable of taking over the human immune system to fix problems like cancerous cells and clogged arteries and connecting our brains to the cloud will be available.

He said: “We’ll create more profound forms of communication than we’re familiar with today, more profound music and funnier jokes. We’ll be funnier. We’ll be sexier. We’ll be more adept at expressing loving sentiments.”

He claimed that by hacking the human body we can ditch millennia-old genes that serve no purpose and increase our lifespan significantly.
