Donald Trump’s Own Aides Have Banned Him From Twitter

Donald Trump’s Twitter account has suddenly gotten a lot more tame.

That’s because the Republican presidential candidate has had his Twitter privileges revoked by campaign staff members, according to a report Sunday by the New York Times.

Trump has gotten into hot water repeatedly over the course of his campaign over his coarse and combative tweets, aimed at everyone from Democratic rival Hillary Clinton to the parents of a fallen Army soldier to a former Miss Universe. To prevent any more potentially self-destructive blowups, his press team has reportedly taken control of his tweets over the last few days of the campaign.

He’s now dictating tweets to staff members, who can edit his comments, the Times said. The result has been tweets like these, promoting rallies and thanking supporters, which lack the usual Trumpian flair:

It is believed that Trump’s staff tweets from an Apple Inc. AAPL, +1.53% iPhone, while Trump himself tweets from an Android phone, which hasn’t posted a message on Twitter since early Thursday:

President Barack Obama, campaigning for Clinton in Florida on Sunday, pounced on the news. “Apparently, his campaign has taken away his Twitter,” Obama said to laughs at a rally in Kissimmee, Fla. “In the last two days, they had so little confidence in his self-control, that they said, ‘We’re just going to take away your Twitter.’

“Now, if somebody can’t handle a Twitter account, they can’t handle the nuclear codes,” Obama said.
