As if we need further evidence that most journalists’ perception of hacking was fostered watching Hackers stoned in 1999, CNN just made themselves a laughing stock by using video game footage to talk about real-life cyber crimes.
While most media outlets are visually challenged when it comes to portraying hacking, CNN went a step further by lazily taking a screen grab from Fallout 4, a post-apocalyptic adventure game. In Fallout you must hack terminals to open doors and activate killer robots with a fairly simple mini game.
Although considering how easy it was for the Russians/400-pound hacker from New Jersey to phish John Podesta’s email password, maybe the image is appropriate.
