Apple’s Banning the Rifle Emoji, But What About All the Other Deadly Emojis?

In the wake of the Orlando Shooting, Apple decided to block the rollout of a rifle emoji for the Olympics, ticking off biathloners everywhere. While banning rifles is certainly en vogue at the moment, the rifle is kind of a bad start. What about all the other deadly emojis on the iPhone?

In the US:

 – Handguns were involved in 5,562 murders in 2014, compared to 248 murders involving rifles according to the FBI.

 – Cigarette smoking kills 480,000 people per year.

  – 47,055 people died of drug overdoses in 2014.

  – Knives were used to kill 1,567 people in 2014.

  – Explosives were used to kill 6 people in 2014.

  – About 10,000 people die per year of skin cancer.

– An estimated 60 people a year die of electrocutions by consumer electronics.

 

  – 5 people have been killed by alligators since the start of 2015.

 

Around the world:

 – Diarrhea kills 760,000 children each year under the age of 5.

 – Saudi Arabia executed 158 people in 2015.

 – Is the root of all evil.

 – 55.3 million people die each year on this cold, unforgiving planet.
