Apple Gets Memed for Very Unpopular AirPod Announcement

Apple has finally found a way to unite the Internet: Introduce a completely useless product that replaces a feature everyone had been loving, make that product so small that everyone will invariably lose it, and charge nearly the cost of a cell phone to buy a new one.

Introducing the AirPod: two tiny Bluetooth devices you stick in your ears so that you can communicate with your phone in the short period of time before they end up wedged between your couch cushions, at the bottom of your gym bag or in your dog’s intestinal tract.

The Internet, which reacted almost uniformly with scorn, quickly used its collective powers to do what it does best: mock the living daylights out of Apple’s announcement.

Some users tried to find a cost-cutting measure. …

Others predicted the future …

Others expressed confusion at Apple’s market research system …

Some were already nostalgic for the glory days. …

Others were prepping for this brave new world….

Some just acknowledged the obvious….

The iPhone 7 with AirPod capability will be available for pre-order on Friday. The phone itself won’t come until September 16.
