Finally, you can play a Link that isn’t just another straight white male. Some brave rom hacker at romhacking.net changed the original Legend of Zelda to allow Link to more progressively express his gender identity… as an attack helicopter.

Certain members of the lamestream game media made a big stink at E3 over Link not being a woman in the latest Zelda game. But come on Polygon, are you so transphobic to think that two genders are all that matters? I don’t care what that garlic bread meme said, Link has a plethora of gender identities to choose from and attack helicopter fits the bill perfectly.
While this is a huge step in the right direction for Nintendo, there’s still a few problematic elements. Like why does this attack helicopter have to have an idealized body? I demand to see curvier attack helicopters that better reflect the body diversity of the U.S. Air Force. And let’s cool it with the ageism, already. This attack helicopter looks young enough to be born with an iPhone in its hand!
But for now, I’ll be mildly satisfied with at least one new gender identity for Link. Yay, diversity for the win!
