Famous ‘Writers’ Sign Fancy Petition Opposing Trump (But No One Cares)

If hundreds of so-called “writers” signed an overdramatic online petition opposing Donald Trump’s candidacy for president, would anyone care?

Literally zero people are going to change their minds about supporting Donald Trump after finding out that Stephen King, Junot Díaz, Cheryl Strayed, and a bunch of other fancy people who write for a living have published an “open letter to the American people” outlining their opposition to Trump “as a matter of conscience.”

The letter begins:

Because, as writers, we are particularly aware of the many ways that language can be abused in the name of power;

Do you really want to read any further? Didn’t think so. There’s a nifty bit about how “the search for justice is predicated on a respect for the truth,” and so on, but it’s mostly just self-righteous pap that would be a lot more entertaining if John Oliver shouted it at on you from the television screen.

Cool letter, though.
