Women’s March Supporters Ship Tubs of Lard to NC Pol Who Called Them Stupid, Crazy

On Monday, a North Carolina state senator said on Twitter that Women’s March protestors were “crazies,” and that “if brains were lard, you couldn’t grease a small skillet.” Now it’s Thursday, and tubs of lard are piling up in the office of Sen. Joyce Krawiec, a retort from those she criticized.

“I just sent four pounds to her Senate Office in Raleigh and couldn’t be more delighted with my purchase! Highly recommend!!!!” wrote one Amazon user.

“I pawed through the tub and squeezed it through my fingers and there were no women’s brains anywhere,” wrote another Amazon reviewer about the 64-oz container of lard she’d shipped to the senator. “Very disappointed.”

By this morning, Krawiec had received at least 10 boxes, the Charlotte Observer reported, and “a small stack of boxes bearing Amazon tape sat in Krawiec’s office on Thursday with a container of lard sitting on the top.”

By deadline, Krawiec did not respond to Heat Street’s request for an interview. But she has since deleted her tweet and apologized.

In a statement released to the Charlotte Observer, Kraweic said that while she was “deeply offended by vulgar language and graphic imagery used by some protests,” her word choice was “unfair to the many women who advocated for their beliefs in a respectful way.”

Krawiec was far from the only politician embroiled in controversy over social media commentary about the Women’s March. Across the U.S., numerous public officials—most of them male, as the Associated Press noted—have faced backlash or discipline for their Tweets.
