The abundance of “white dudes” in charge of the Hillary Clinton campaign was a “terrible” thing, former Clinton aide and Center for American Progress president Neera Tanden wrote in an email to John Podesta.

In the January 2015 email, which was recently published by WikiLeaks, Tanden writes “I’m not the diversity police… But the 4 white dudes running everything is terrible.” The surplus of white dudes in change, Tanden adds, was also the “worst part of Obama 08!”

The email was sent months before Hillary Clinton officially launched her campaign, but came several days after a number of media outlets (correctly) identified the individuals who would assume top roles in the campaign, including white dudes Robby Mook (campaign manager), Joel Benenson (pollster), and John Podesta (campaign chairman). Presumably white dudes Brian Fallon (press secretary) and Nick Merrill (traveling press secretary) were also in the mix.

As Tanden noted in her email, President Obama also has a history of putting white dudes in charge of things.
