Hillary Clinton’s top backers were not pleased about Benjamin Netanyahu’s reelection as prime minister of Israel in March 2015, according to emails published by WikiLeaks on Friday.
“Israel is depressing,” Tanden wrote in an email to Podesta on March 18, 2015, the day after Netanyahu’s election victory. “It’s a good lesson that the wing nuts are just as ruthless in every country.”
Podesta wrote back with a one-word assessment: “Bad.”

Under President Obama’s leadership, the relationship between the United States and Israel has been nearly as contentious as ever. Hillary Clinton has signaled publicly that she would adopt a friendlier approach to dealing with our closest ally in the Middle East, but these emails from her top advisers suggest that many of the people surrounding her are sympathetic to Obama’s more hostile approach.
