Hillary Clinton suffers from an inability to apologize, but “didn’t seem like a bitch” during a September 2015 interview about her email scandal, Center for American Progress president Neera Tanden wrote in an email published by Wikileaks.

“Everyone wants her to apologize. And she should,” Tanden wrote in an email to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta on Sept. 4, 2015. “Apologies are like her Achilles heel. But she didn’t seem like a bitch in the interview.”

The interview Tanden is referring to is presumably the one conducted by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Sept. 4, 2015, in which Hillary said she was “sorry that this has been confusing to people.”

Hillary was widely criticized for what was seen as her refusal to offer a genuine apology for her unprecedented use of a secret, privately operated email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

Clinton issue a more explicit apology days later during an interview with ABC News. “I’m sorry about it, and I take full responsibility,” she said.
