President Donald Trump’s first summit with a foreign head of state got off to a rocky start Friday morning when the White House press office issued a daily briefing schedule with UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s name spelled wrong three times.
The Press Office dropped the “h” in May’s first name in their opening salvo, as well as in the summaries of her two scheduled events with the President: a meeting in the Oval Office and a working luncheon where the two would talk about how best to continue the two countries’ “special relationship.”
Vice President Mike Pence’s own press office issued a press release that misspelled PM May’s name once as well.
The Telegraph was quick to forgive the error, noting that when May first took office, “Teresa May” and not “Theresa May” trended on Twitter as social media users in the U.S. and UK alike failed to add the “h” into the newly minted PM’s name.
But media outlets also pointed out that there’s a rather popular Teresa May in the United Kingdom, whose line of work is very different from the PM’s: She’s a porn actress and music video vixen, who appeared in Prodigy’s video for “Smack that Bitch Up” in the 1990s.
The latter Teresa is, at least, taking the mixup in stride. “I find it quite amusing how many people think I’m the Prime Minister. Just shows how ignorant some people are,” she told UK press.
Prime Minister Theresa May is probably not similarly amused, however her office has not commented on the mistake.
