Bernie Sanders is broken-hearted, and thanks to the magic of social media, you can now watch the moment it happened.

Despite meeting with the President earlier in the day to discuss how Bernie was going to transition into a role as a surrogate for the general campaign, Sanders was seemingly unaware that the President was going to formally endorse Hillary Clinton. So it came as an unwelcome surprise when a French reporter later gave him the bad news.

You can almost see the poor guy’s soul darken as his dreams are totally crushed.

If Sanders thought the President was on his side, he obviously wasn’t paying attention during the hour-long conversation he had with Barack Obama. Emerging from his conference, Sanders confirmed to the media that a Donald Trump presidency would be “disastrous” and likely to benefit “the 1%.” He did insist, however, that the votes in the California primary were still not properly counted, because he’s still Bernie Sanders.

The White House, for its part, isn’t putting much stock in Sanders as a Clinton surrogate. The President has reportedly tagged Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Elizabeth Warren as top choices for that role, and Warren at least, has taken to it rather quickly, doing a little undignified begging for the Veep slot, perhaps to reinforce her allegiance.
