For the last several weeks, CNN has been providing a live on-screen “fact check” of Donald Trump’s statements.
They seem to have gotten a little carried away. On Thursday, for example, CNN decided to “fact check” Trump’s suggestion that President Obama was the “founder” of the terrorist group ISIS.

Some critics argued that fact-checking such a claim (which Trump himself said was “sarcastic”) was an example of “autistic literalism” that is rarely applied to other politicians not named Donald Trump.
