Donald Trump trolled the media on Friday, pretending to hold a press conference about Obama’s birth certificate, but actually putting on a publicity event for his new hotel in Washington, D.C.
Trump invited a number of war veterans, medal of honor recipients, and military leaders to the event, many of whom delivered remarks to the assembled crowd of anxious journalists.
One of those journalists was Jonathan Weisman, the deputy Washington editor at the New York Times. He described the speakers at the event as a bunch of “angry old white being angry.”
Angry old white men being angry

Weisman’s tweet did not go over so well with fans of the military and people who expect high-ranking mainstream journalists to be above taking cheap shots on Twitter.
@jonathanweisman Such a cheap way of arguing.

Some pointed out that not all of the speakers were old white men. Many were upset at what they viewed was a childish swipe at veterans who, regardless of their political views, had served their country, unlike Weisman.
@jonathanweisman Yeah, including that Latino who just spoke. Thanks for your support for our veterans.

Perhaps it was ironic that an old white man would Tweet snarkishly, if not angrily, about “angry old white men” expressing their views.

Weisman is also the author of No. 4 Imperial Lane, a novel about an American who studied abroad.
