Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald defended his agency from complaints over long wait periods by noting that Disney theme parks do not measure success based on wait times. Yes, he actually said that.

“When you got to Disney, do they measure the number of hours you wait in line, or what’s important? What’s important is, what’s your satisfaction with the experience?” McDonald said Monday at a reporter breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. “And what I would like to move to, eventually, is that kind of measure.”

A report published in 2015 found that as many as 307,000 veterans may have died waiting for health care through the scandal-plagued Veterans Affairs system, which awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses to employees last year.
McDonald’s comments were not well received on social media.
