Trump Predicts US-UK Relationship May Worsen

Could it be curtains for the ‘special relationship’?

Donald Trump has said he may not have a “very good relationship” with British prime minister David Cameron if he wins the US presidency.

Cameron called the Republican hopeful “stupid, divisive and wrong” six months ago after he suggested a temporary ban on Muslims entering the US.

Trump’s controversial idea came after 14 people were murdered and 22 seriously injured in a terror attack last December carried out by a married Muslim couple in San Bernardino, California.

Trump also said at the time that some Muslims have a “hatred” of America.

Speaking to Piers Morgan today on ITV show Good Morning Britain, Trump said of Cameron: “It looks like we’re not going to have a very good relationship. Who knows? I hope to have a good relationship with him, but it sounds like he’s not willing to address the problem either.”

In the interview – the second Trump has given to Morgan this year – he repeated his view that he is relaxed about Britain leaving the EU.

In contrast to President Obama, who recently claimed that quitting the EU would leave the UK at the “back of the queue” in trade talks, Trump said he did not think it would harm the UK’s trade position.

Trump said: “It wouldn’t make any difference to me whether they were in the EU or not. They certainly wouldn’t be back of the queue, that I can tell you.”

He also used the interview to criticize new London mayor Sadiq Khan, who has accused the US presidential hopeful of holding “ignorant” views on Islam which “could make both our countries less safe”.

Khan warned that Trump “risks alienating mainstream Muslims around the world and plays into the hands of the extremists”.

Responding, Trump said: “I am offended, he doesn’t know me. They are very rude statements. I think it’s ignorant of him to say that.”

He also challenged Khan to an IQ test.
