Donald Trump is TIME magazine’s person of the year for 2016. It seems like an obvious choice, given the reality show icon’s unlikely victory over Hillary Clinton in the presidential election, after repeatedly dismantling the elite consensus regarding his viability as a candidate.

Not everyone, however, is convinced that Trump is a good choice person of the year. Some internet users are outraged that Hillary Clinton, the candidate who lost to Trump against all odds, was not given the honor.
DEAR @TIME: Hillary broke a barrier that stood for 227 years. Trump bullied his way to the presidency. Any questions?#personoftheyear

No matter who TIME Mag. picks 4 POT year–Hillary Clinton will be the only Person Of The Year for me… pic.twitter.com/BaGdKJPWWk

Hillary Clinton is THE Person of the Year. She earned it. The 1st woman to run from a major party got more votes than any white man. Ever.

But TIME did not fail to honor Hillary Clinton. The magazine named her the second most influential person of 2016, and described the failed nominee as “an American Moses” who came up just short.
Hillary Clinton, an American Moses, is runner up for #timepoy. My piece on the woman president who might have been: https://t.co/LtAs1ug2oI

“Like an American Moses, she was an imperfect prophet, leading women to the edge of the Promised Land,” Charlotte Alter writes of the almost-president in a lengthy profile. “Now it’s up to another woman to enter it.”
Even though Clinton will not become the first female president of the United States, she has already “made history,” Alter argues. The 69-year-old grandmother is “the woman who was almost President, she is what might have been and what will yet be.”
In other words, Clinton’s name might come up in conversations surrounding the inauguration of President Ivanka Trump in 2032.
Still, many people who don’t like Donald Trump were not happy to see his photo on the cover of a magazine they will never buy. Some observant social media users cleverly pointed out that Adolf Hitler was also named a TIME person of the year, as were a number of other unsavory historical figures, including Joseph Stalin and Ayatollah Khomeini.
Qualifications for Person of the Year- favors white people, inspires hateful rhetoric towards people of color and is a terrible person pic.twitter.com/2y8X6E5gbb

Hitler, Stalin (twice) and the Ayatollah Khomeini have all been named TIME's person of the year.

Donald Trump joins Hitler, Stalin, the Ayatollah Khamenei as TIME Person of the Year, and he thinks it is a compliment. https://t.co/9jyoOPH2fn

Dems on Twitter: "Trump is Person of the Year, just like HITLER!"
Yeah, but also like Ghandi, MLK, & American Women. Not a great argument.
