Democrats know they need to unify their broken party in the wake of a contentious primary that left thousands of progressive voters questioning the value of the DNC. So, in their hour of need, they’re turning to none other than Snoop Dogg to bring their warring factions together.
According to a statement sent to Billboard, Snoop Dogg will headline a special “Unity Concert” that will close out the Democratic National Convention on July 28. Hillary Clinton’s PAC will sponsor the concert, along with the Democrats’ Senate and House PACs.
The pioneering West Coast rapper just released his 14th studio album, Coolaid, and will have to take a break from a national tour to help the shattered Dems kiss and make up.
But Snoop is, reportedly, a Hillary Clinton fan, having endorsed her earlier this year during an interview on Bravo. He was among several rappers to select the former Secretary of State before the primaries had even concluded. He said he supports the idea of a woman president. Plus, he has something in common with the Democrats’ presumptive nominee: both he and Hillary Clinton have skated after being accused of serious crimes.
Snoop will provide a sharp contrast to the DNC’s reported opening festivities, a 10,000-person offsite rally headlined by Bernie Sanders.
Sanders and his team have requested the rally so that he can deliver a “victory speech” to progressive activists who plan on amassing outside the DNC in a show of support for Sanders’s abortive presidential bid — a message not likely to foster party unity.
There’s no word yet on whether Sanders will be a guest at Snoop’s party.
