A Tennessee prison stamped Trump’s name on the hands of visitors last week, a spokeswoman confirmed.
Like many other facilities, the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville stamps visitors’ hands with ultraviolet ink, requiring them to show the stamp before they leave.
A photo of last week’s stamps, leaked by a tipster to the Nashville Scene, shows the letters “NWCX,” along with “Trump.”
“Part of our security protocol requires each of our facilities to have a ‘word of the day’ that is selected at random,” Tennessee Department of Corrections spokeswoman Neysa Taylor told Heat Street in an email. “After that word [“Trump”] was selected, the warden of the facility decided that no words that are also proper nouns could be used.”
The Northwest Correctional Complex houses more than 2,350 prisoners, according to 2016 state data. State officials said they’re unsure how “Trump” ended up on last week’s stamp, the Associated Press reported.
