UPDATE: Ted Cruz ups the ante, compares John Boehner to Donald Trump.
Former House Speaker John Boehner evidently does not miss working with Senator Ted Cruz. The two men never really got along, and now that Boehner is retired, he’s telling people how he really feels about the man who could become the next Republican nominee for president.
Asked about Cruz during a talk at Stanford University on Wednesday, the former speaker did not hold back.
“Lucifer in the flesh,” Boehner said. “I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”

Boehner said his relationship with the other Republican candidates were far more amicable. Donald Trump is a golfing partner and a “texting buddy.” John Kasich, the governor of Boehner’s home state of Ohio, was also a friend, he said, but “requires more effort of my behalf than all my other friends.”
UPDATE: Ted Cruz responded on Twitter:
Tell me again who will stand up to Washington? Trump, who's Boehner's "texting and golfing buddy," or Carly & me? https://t.co/qvYPSaTEV7

Cruz told reporters that Boehner had “allowed his inner Trump to come out,” describing the former speaker’s remarks as “interesting.”
“If you want a president like John Boehner,” Cruz said, “Donald Trump is your man.”
