Young People Physically Weaker Under Obama Than Under Reagan, Study Finds

Young Americans are physically weaker in the Obama era than they were during the Ronald Reagan administration, according to a scientific study.

Researches at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina found that Americans under 30 — men and women — have weaker grip strength today than they did in 1985, when Reagan was president and the United States was on the verge of winning the Cold War.

The study found that, on average, the hand strength of young males has decreased by 20 pounds of force since the Reagan era, and the hand strength of young women has decreased by 10 pounds.

One of the study’s lead authors, Elizabeth Fain, told NPR that Americans are getting weaker due to a number of factors, such as the increased use of technology and the decline in manual labor.
