Bernie Sanders picked up a key endorse ahead of next week’s Democratic primary election in California: Nicolas Maduro, the socialist president of Venezuela, a country that is rapidly turning into a failed state.

“Bernie Sanders, our revolutionary friend, ought to win in the United States,” Maduro said during a broadcast on state television.

According to the socialist from Venezuela, the socialist from Vermont would prevail in the United States “if the elections were free.”

Maduro also predicted that Republican nominee Donald Trump could win the presidential election in November.

Venezuela is currently experiencing a crippling economic crisis, which Maduro naturally blames on the United States. The country is running out of basic supplies such as bread, sugar, toilet paper, and just about everything. Tens of thousands of Venezuelans have taken to the streets to protest Maduro’s government. Police recently had to beat back protestors who tried to storm the presidential palace.

Sanders remains a long shot to defeat Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, but has thus far resisted calls for him to drop out of the race. Sanders is hoping that an upset win in the liberal stronghold of California could change the momentum in the race, especially since Hillary Clinton’s email scandal continues to get worse.
