White House press secretary Sean Spicer thinks it’s “unfortunate” that Saturday Night Live has become so “mean” in its mocking portrayals of President Donald Trump and members of his staff, including Spicer.

The diminutive press aide told Extra he though Melissa McCarthy’s widely acclaimed impression of him during the most recent episode of the sketch show was “funny,” but Spicer suggested McCarthy “could dial back, especially when it comes to mocking his reported obsession with cinnamon flavored gun. “[She] needs to slow down on the gum chewing,” he said. “Way too many pieces in there.”

Spicer said he received so many text messages after McCarthy’s performance he initially thought was some sort of national emergency. He also weighed in on Alec Baldwin’s performance as Donald Trump, and was far more critical.

“Alec has gone from funny to mean, and that’s unfortunate,” Spicer said. “SNL used to be really funny. There’s a streak of meanness now that they’ve crossed over to mean.”

Spider’s opinion on this matter was in line with the president’s who recently complained about Saturday Night Live in a furious tweet. “@NBC News is bad but Saturday Night Live is the worst of NBC,” the commander-in-chief wrote on Twitter last month. “Not funny, cast is terrible, always a complete hit job. Really bad television!”

Trump has also expressed displeasure with Baldwin’s impersonation of him. “Just tried watching Saturday Night Live—unwatchable,” Trump tweeted in December. “Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad.”
