Anti-Trump activists are holding counter-programming to President Donald Trump’s Tuesday address to a joint session of Congress, and apparently unable to get anyone truly famous on short notice, they’ve settled for longtime Trump nemisis, Rosie O’Donnell.
The actress and comedian announced that she will be headlining the event, titled “Resistance Address: Defending American Values in a Time of Crisis,” on her Twitter account, in response to a comment about Trump’s speech by another outspoken activist, George Takei.
O’Donnell said that the protest is expected to be “huge,” and a press release, issued late Monday, says that “thousands” are expected for the event, which will take place outside the White House sometime Tuesday evening.
“The rally will feature speakers from diverse organizations and groups of people who have been impacted and harmed by the Trump administration’s policies,” the statement reads. “Including women, people of color and members of the LGBTQ community, as well as environmental and immigrants’ rights groups.”
And, of course, O’Donnell. No other celebrities are listed on the event sheet, not even Michael Moore.
O’Donnell, of course, has been a longtime foil for the President, dating back to a confrontation the two had in the mid-2000s, over Trump allowing then-Miss USA Tara Connor to retain her title despite allegations of drug use. She called him “morally bankrupt” on The View. He fired back by saying she was a “loser,” and the two exchanged blows routinely, in person and over social media, routinely, for the next decade.
Trump even took potshots at O’Donnell during a Presidential debate. O’Donnell was forced to apologize after alleging that Barron Trump, the President’s 10-year-old son was autistic.
Since his election, O’Donnell has been an outspoken critic of the President on Twitter, demanding that Congressional Democrats undertake an investigation into the President’s ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. She even requested to play Trump advisor Steve Bannon on SNL but was, apparently, rejected.
