Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) is an enemy of Wall Street and an outspoken critic of everything involving powerful individuals making a lot of money they don’t deserve. She’s also very rich and reportedly got a hefty book advance in 2015.
Warren, who is worth millions, is a certified member of the “1 percent,” the class of super-wealthy Americans that many of her supporters attack on a regular basis. Still, Warren has a long way to go if she wants to catch up with Hillary Clinton, who reportedly earned a $14 million advance for her failed memoir, Hard Choices.
Warren angered a lot of progressives last month when she decided to endorse Hillary Clinton. Hollywood star Susan Sarandon, among others, described the endorsement as “ironic,” given Hillary’s ties to Wall Street banks and her obsession with making money. Some Bernie Sanders supporters were so distraught they set fire to their Elizabeth Warren swag.
Warren has been mentioned as a possible running mate for Hillary, although that’s unlikely to happen, given Warren’s history of attacking Wall Street bankers, who have been some of Hillary Clinton’s most loyal political donors over the course of her career.
It is not known when Warren’s new book will be released. She has already written a memoir, published in 2014, which includes this interesting passage describing former Congressman Barney Frank’s Washington, D.C., apartment:
[Frank’s senior adviser] Jim [Segel] showed me into the congressman’s apartment. It was a small space; on one side of the living area there was a king-size mattress on the floor, complete with a tangle of unmade sheets and blankets. Jim sat down next to a small table in the kitchen part of the room. I said hello to the congressman’s surfer-dude handsome boyfriend, Jimmy, but before we had a chance to visit, Congressman Barney Frank burst in. [emphasis added]
…He sat me down with my back wedged up next to the refrigerator, then jumped right in.
