Of the three remaining Republican candidates for president, Ohio governor John Kasich might have the best shot at defeating Hillary Clinton in the general election.
Most pollsters haven’t bothered to ask about a hypothetical Kasich-Clinton matchup, but when they do, Kasich consistently beats the former secretary of state and elderly homeowner. Three national polls taken in February showed Kasich leading Clinton by an average of 7.4 percent; she only cracked 40 percent in one of them.
Polling also shows Kasich well-positioned to win his home state of Ohio, a crucial swing state in presidential election, in a matchup versus Hillary. Two polls from early March showed him leading by comfortable margins of 15 percent (PPP) and 21 percent (NBC/Wall Street Journal).
GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, meanwhile, consistently trails to Clinton in head-to-head general election polling, despite his repeated assertions that “many, many polls show me beating Hillary easily.” Clinton, who is facing a stronger than expected challenge from 74-year-old socialist Bernie Sanders, is a terrible politician who is viewed unfavorably by a majority of Americans. Only one other candidate is viewed less favorably: Donald Trump.
