PHOTO: Hillary Clinton’s Hair Just Made History

Hillary Clinton made history again last week, appearing in a greatly obscured photo published by Yated Ne’eman, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspaper that traditionally does not print photos of women for reasons of modesty.

The photo, from Getty Images, was taken at a recent campaign rally in St. Petersburg, Fla., and feature Hillary’s arm and part of her hair, with her face tastefully obscured by a podium.

The challenge to ultra-Orthodox publications posed by Hillary’s candidacy has been the subject of some discussion. These outlets have opted to use cartoons or pictures of Bill Clinton in the past to illustrate articles about Hillary, but this actual (partially obscured) photo seems to be a first.

Some editors of ultra-Orthodox publications told the Columbia Journalism Review last year that Hillary’s political success was forcing them to reevaluate their policy, especially given the likelihood or her becoming president, in which case it “would be disrespectful” not to run her picture.
